Let’s face it. First dates are awkward. You are worried about what you will say, what you will wear, about making a good first impression. Instead of choosing the traditional first date of a dinner and movie, why not do something different? Something to get rid of the awkwardness and to provide some spontaneous fun.
Visit an Arcade
Who doesn’t love playing those video games or even air hockey? And what about trying to make the most baskets in arcade basketball? It won’t matter who is winning or losing. You both will be laughing so hard at the funny misses that losing may be even more fun. You can spend time talking while you play but won’t feel the strange silence when you run out of topics. Just don’t get too competitive or you’ll ruin the relaxed mood.
Visit an Amusement Park or Carnival
This is another place where you can play games and ride those crazy, fun rides. Enjoy a water park or check out the roller coasters. With plenty of things to do, you will keep busy at whatever speed suits you. Plus, there is plenty of time to chat and get to know each other while the rides are loading.
It is even possible to find a little romance when you are suspended in the air at the top of the ferris wheel. Looking out over the park, especially at night, can be fun and makes for special memories. The adrenaline rush you get from those rides will make you feel invincible and able to relax with an almost total stranger.
Visit the Zoo
This fun date idea is a little less adventurous and more slow-paced but just as fun. You can spend time talking as you walk from one exhibit to another. Take photos of each other as well as the animals and stop to watch as they play and frolic in their habitats. Many zoos have exhibits and special shows that you can attend.
Take breaks along the paths and sit on benches to have time to get to know each other. The best thing about going to the zoo is that when you run out of something to say, you can get up and go to the next exhibit. With numerous places to eat along the way and movies often showing, you can enjoy the traditional dinner and movie in a much more relaxed atmosphere.
Enjoy your first date more when you take the focus off trying to be perfect or making a great first impression and just relax and have fun. Remember how easy it was to make friends as a kid at some of these places? It might be even more fun as an adult.
