Everyone has their own annoying habits, so remember – your shit stinks too. Here are some examples of habits you might have to learn to deal with in a relationship (bolded are “Deal With It,” non-bolded is “Live With It”).
10. Laziness! – Always be mindful that you aren’t letting them slack off! Help them avoid it by encouraging them to get out and about – but be mindful to be respectful. Not everyone who is lazy is doing it on purpose!
9. Problems with money – Money handling is a big issue in a relationship, so keep a close eye on bad spending!
8. Your partner is too meek – Meekness is endearing, but it can get tiresome rather quickly if it feels like you are constantly taking care of them. Try to help them learn some confidence.
7. Your partner is too brash – A brash personality can be cute too sometimes, but it can also be annoying. Like being meek, it’s a part of who they are – just help them learn to control it better.
6. Doesn’t respect your parents – Now this one’s a doozy, as in a way it speaks to your partner’s respect for you! Making them understand how important your family is to your life will hopefully elucidate your partner on why this behavior is in such poor form.
5. They enjoy different pizza toppings – A simple compromise here. If the tastes in pizza are drastic enough, it’s fair to say that there will be difficulty in learning to enjoy each other’s pizzas. A half-n-half pizza might just be the answer.
4. They like different kinds of music – Musical tastes often vary, and when it comes to a relationship, it can be annoying to have very different tastes. Encouraging each other to learn to appreciate the qualities of each other’s tastes will make everything a lot more comfortable.
3. Doesn’t do their own dishes – Now, this is a habit that should be confronted ASAP! If left unchecked, it can get out of control and leave you encumbered by it all when you do yours. Putting your foot down and asserting why their lack of contribution is problematic is paramount to keeping good structure in a relationship.
2. They always want to watch what they want to watch – It’s always pretty annoying, eh? You just want to watch your show, but your partner insists on watching their show. This is not a habit that should be accommodated to, but rather, compromised with. Trying to give each other equal command over the television is the best way to handle this. Who knows? You two might learn to like each other’s shows!
1. Farting – Farting is actually relatively easy to cope with, after time. Once you and your partner get more settled into a serious relationship, you might find that one or both of you has felt it appropriate to fart in front of each other. While the stench might seem offensive at first, you forget about it after a while!
